What to Know About Philippines Short Explanation

At school we are taught that our country's history first begun with the arrival of first humans using rafts or boats.
Some theories said that, before Philippines were not surrounded by water and thus first humans have walked their way into the land.
These first humans that went into or lived in Philippines was not of the same origin, same family or same culture that scattered throughout the country.

Philippines coined its name in honor of King Philip II of Spain. Spanish explorer Ruy López de Villalobos, during his expedition in 1542, named Las Islas Filipinas to cover all the islands of the archipelago.




Spanish explorers first landed on the islands of Leyte and Samar and named the islands Felipinas after the then-Prince of Asturias. Then explored the whole archipelago.

Philippines consisting of 7,107 islands situated in the western Pacific Ocean made it a great source of wealthy natural reserves. Different natural resources ranging from fishes, animal stocks, fruits, herbs, trees to stones, metals, golds, diamonds and oil.

The Philippines openly situated in Western Pacific Ocean  made it possible for explorers to first land on the archipelago. With its vast resources, both human and natural, Philippines is the eye for manufacturers and traders.

Philippines national language is Filipino or Tagalog. It was declared the official language by the first revolutionary constitution in the Philippines, the Constitution of Biak-na-Bato in 1897. It is one of the two official languages alongside English.

Yes, Pinoys during the American colonization were taught to read, speak and well understand the language English.

Aside from the two languages mentioned, Philippines has other dialects or a local language spoken each from different native regions.

The Philippines' location on the Pacific Ring of Fire and close to the equator makes the Philippines prone to earthquakes and typhoons with an approximately 20 per year.

Filipinos enjoyed its only 2 seasons in a year, the wet and dry seasons. Starting March and ends in June or early July is the dry season. Wet season in July is followed with rain, floods, and storms.

Being a tropical rain forest country, made it one of the biggest biodiversity in the whole world!



The Philippines, or the Republic of the Philippines is a sovereign state. Being a sovereign country, its political association with effective internal and external sovereignty over a geographic area and population is not dependent on, or subject to any other power or state.
